I just got finished reading tonight's assigned homework, Lauro, "The Ethical Treatment of Zombies." I must say that out of all the readings we have done thus far, this one intrigued me the most. To start off, I have to absolutely applaud Lauro, because she wrote a four hundred page dissertation on zombies, and she didn't even like the subject. I find it difficult to write an eight page paper on zombies, whereas she wrote a FOUR HUNDRED PAGE PAPER! See, Dr.Hanrahan had mentioned at the end of the last class how the article may be boring, and difficult to get through, so I was immediately expecting a long, academic paper, whereas this paper did the exact opposite, and had me hooked from the start. I had always wanted to hear more about the so called, "zombie attack" and Lauro provided just the information I needed. The entire time, I was expecting that the homeless man who's face had been eaten, was dead, but I was wrong. I'm not going to list everything about the article on here so you have a chance to read it first before getting any spoilers, but I brought up the attack for a reason. I am so immune to the shock value of horror movies because I indulge so often, that zombie movies have never even been on my radar of horror movies I'd want to watch. I just never found zombie movies scary, yet when I read Lauro's article, I got the chills. How could a human being eat the part of man's face off? The attack was by an actual human, whereas vampires, witches and werewolves are not real creatures, so I just put zombies in the category of not scary, since there was never an incident ( besides cannibalism ). Now I can finally begin to understand the fascination and fear of something like this attack happening to many people in civilization. What do you guys think? was this shocking and horrific or not?
I remember hearing about the incident on the news. I was shocked and it was hard to believe. I looked up how people who had taken bath slats acted to try and understand since that is the drug the media said he was on. It was pretty horrifying to think that someone was eating another persons face. Not there arm, not there leg, I mean any of that would freak a person out, but the fact that Eugene was eating the Poppo's face is just horrible. And his eyes, "the windows to the soul" as they are sometimes referred to, were gone. I find this whole situation scary, but fascinating. I also really enjoyed the article by Lauro. She made some very good points, but in a way that was easy for anyone to comprehend. After class on Wend. I also feared that the article would be hard to follow or confusing, but it was actually the complete opposite.
