What is normal?

In the article we read, Luaro titled a section what is normal. In the modern times we live in, that is a legitimate question. Seriously, all the traditional aspects of our society are changing. For example,  your children will never understand a VCR or a CD for that matter. Its crazy to think its changing so rapidly. You ever wonder that we might not be able to keep up and turn into technology zombies? Stuck in our old ways of living. I know its a weird question, but it came to me after class today. What do you think? Are we destined to be left behind? Zombie VCR people? CD monsters?

  1. I think it is easier to do what is more comfortable to be doing the same old thing, but now many people see change in an exciting way. I am a parent and tend to keep up with my children's technology even when it is not my cup of tea. Changing routine does not always mean we are forgetting about the past. We are just responsible to carry one tradition sooner than we might expect.

  2. Personally, I had a very difficult time when my mother donated our collection of Disney VHS tapes. They had been such a part of my childhood and all I could see was the wait I was going to have for them to rerelease a movie from the vault. The Lion King is by far one of my favorite movies ever (up there with Breakfast at Tiffanys and Casablanca). But I think that we adjusted rather quickly. Just think about when the ipod and zune came out. (Does anyone actually remember the zune? I only do because I bought my husband one for Christmas 8 years ago because he was anti apple and their MP4 format). Nowadays, cd's have become obsolete. Most computers don't even include CD drives anymore.

  3. I for one, still have all my hundreds of Goosebumps and Disney tapes. I know it's much more convenient to have DVD's, but there's something so nostalgic about the tapes. I've never had an attachment to cds, because I always sort of thought they were a nuisance. The only time I buy cds is when I'm supporting an artist that I really believe in. Great questions, Dixon!

  4. I do not believe I will ever fall behind on technology because so much has changed in technology throughout my life and I've kept up. Also, my parents are quite adept with technology and when they were born it was rare to have computers at home. The fact that my dad is an IT helps us keep up with technology as well.

  5. How can we send love notes, or any notes anymore without publicizing?
I do not believe in absentee people. We all contribute and that is what makes us GRAND.
