I’ve been thinking and I
guess you could say worrying about our upcoming analysis. Well, when I get
worried or concerned, my anxiety seems to take my compulsively to google. I
google almost everything, it’s quite a bad habit and is an example of how
dependent our society has become on technology. However, in my anxiety ridden
search I decided to google “what makes a good literary analysis” and read from
there. Here is a link to a Wikipedia page, (I know, I know Wikipedia is the
devil) but this post was pretty helpful to me just as a reference page and

Well, in this “How-To” I
found a couple points very interesting. Oh they make it sound so easy by the
way. Although, I did appreciate the point named, “Refine your thesis” I found
it useful because I tend to get off topic during my papers. However, this step
tells us “Don’t hesitate to revamp your thesis to accurately summarize your
paper after you’ve written it” I am most definitely going to use this as a
reminder to talk more about my thesis and back up my thesis accordingly
throughout my paper which is another thing this website tells us to do. Another
thing Wiki tells us to do is, “•Perform a close reading and analyze multiple
factors in your literary analysis. You might discuss a character's development
-- how the individual changes from the beginning to the end of the work. You
could focus on a character's fatal flaw and examine the person's mistakes” this
is precisely what Dr. Hanrahan suggests that we practice. Analyzing the
characters, their choices, their flaws and their mistakes. Well, I hope you
guys found something to take with you out of my compulsive google findings.

I'm always compulsive when it comes to double checking myself, so you aren't alone Leah! I actually find looking up all sorts of sources and examples of papers written relating to your essay topic to be quite helpful. I felt kind of lame looking up analysis paper thesis, but now I can see that I'm not alone! Have you come up with a thesis or idea for one yet?
ReplyDeleteI cant even describe how much I google. It is the one stop shop for abything you need directions for. Do you need to find the recipe for meatloaf? Google it!

Is it not facinating how all this information can be accessed from one source. I find that fact to be mind blowing. I bet I could google how to blow your mind!
I think everyone uses Google a lot more than they like to admit. It's so easy for us to access anymore, if we have a question it's easy enough to just get the answer off of google. And thanks for posting the helpful link. It's like our book Everything's An Argument says, “Wikipedia can be a helpful resource in the early stages of research because it links to additional resources and to information about” the research you are doing. I have to admit I never really thought about Wikipedia like that though. It was always something that was never supposed to be used, but I like the idea of it being a good starting point or a useful tool meant to help you in our research but not be part of it. And Laura, as for the thesis, I haven't come up with one yet, but I'm pretty sure I have an idea for the question I would like to answer.
ReplyDeleteGoogle is really the "Help All" site like Hindenburg-Dracula is saying. In reality it isn't a flaw in our new technology savvy age, I believe that it is a strength. Yes, we kind of rely a TON on it, but what if we lost google? or the whole internet all together? we would have to revert to strictly dictionaries and other books. not only would it take weeks to write a good research paper, but also we would be exhausted from just looking up ONE THING! we have grown so much in our day and age! its not a weakness that we rely on the internet, its kind of a strength
