Past Wounds: The Undead

The blog is rich with conversation about the various themes surrounding the zombie genre, and I am deeply intrigued with one particular conversation that hinted at an important question. What does a zombie represent? There was a former blog post about how zombies represent the evil of man that will eventually bring about the destruction of society. I understand your point of view. Man’s evil and wicked ways will eventually tear down our society, and that makes perfect sense to me, but let me pitch this idea to you. Zombies are symbolic of adversity.
The zombie is a representation of the adversity. Adversitiy you have faced in your life time. Recall some of the  the negativity, horror and pain in the hard times. Those are all hings you had to overcome to get where you are now. If you reason it ,makes perfect sense. The zombie is you, well former you; if you never recovered from your life wounds.
What I am saying is every time we got hurt, whether it was emotional or physical, we were wounded! Life is hard, we get beaten, cut, battered and busied, but we endure! We Survive! Imagine, what would look like if we could show the world all those scars. What would we look like if we didn’t survive?
Ill tell you what I would look like; an unholy, dead, rotten corpse straight from the deepest pit in hell. Zombies do indeed represent the worst of us, but in restrospect, they also represent how far we have come. The survivor is also you, the better you who had resiliency and survived the trials and tribulations of life. You are a survivor, and your past is the walking dead.
Perhaps my idea may seem a bit far fetched but what do you think?

  1. This post really spoke to me. I agree completely with this idea. I think that we are survivors, however if our wounds showed we would look similar to zombie. Each time something hard in our lives happens, if we don't recover and revive ourselves from it apart of us dies. I think this post was very relatable and well thought out.

  2. I think your post is interesting. It isn't far fetched, it makes a lot of sense and just adds to the list of things that a zombie could represent. I also think your idea is another way that people can so easily relate to zombies. They can relate to them because they represent how a person really feels. When I read your post it makes me go back to my fist post ("I feel like a zombie.") because of the representation of emotional ties to the zombie instead of literally. Great idea and very nice post!

  3. I absolutely LOVE this post! I do really connect with this, being kind of suicidal, I literally have scars that show, and I have noticed that some people who see them already see me as less than human.. but man, if people saw all of the pain I have gone through on the inside I would surely look like a zombie. Thank you so much for posting this, it gives me confidence I needed. I missed class today because of my depression, I really was not able to get up, and when I did I ended up hurting myself.. anyways TMI i know, but what I am saying is that this post still gives me the since of me being the survivor! I am the living!
