Grandmas Swinging Chainsaws and the new Dark Age

The quotation “the only real alternative to war is violence” really resonated with me today and started my mind to wonder what ramifications that rhetoric could have if the world was ever faced with a zombie apocalypse.  It frightened me to think that humanity would be facing a war that could not be solved through diplomacy or a treaty. However, being that our enemy would be mindless, brain-craving creatures, it may result in people’s loss of inhibition over violence. I even had a little giggle to myself when I imagined grandmothers swinging chainsaws to take off a zombie's head then returning to a bingo game. But by far, the most unsettling aspect of it may be that during times of utter turmoil, history has shown that the arts take the biggest blow. When people are constantly concerned about surviving and can’t even take the garbage out without a shotgun, the likelihood that people continue to devote effort to humanities is greatly reduced. The greatest injustice for mankind would be to survive the zombie apocalypse and not have any accounts or war stories to be made into movies or late night documentaries that detail the horror that people went through, all because people couldn’t run to the grocery store and pick up groceries (or Twinkies) to survive.

Also in my thoughts, and here is where my prior military service comes into play, would the Rules of Engagement still apply. Would I be able to use hallow point rounds? What about exploding rounds? Could I build a makeshift flame thrower?

Oh the questions

  1. That is a funny image to see in my head where grandmas are swinging chainsaws. It reminds me of the scene from "Zombieland" (Twinkies!!) where the old lady walks into a building and a zombie is following her and as she goes in the door and as the zombie gets to the door, a piano falls on it. I do love that movie! I remember when the Miami zombie (I was reminded of this story in class the other day.) happened. I remember thinking oh my gosh, what would happen if a zombie apocalypse did happen, and wondering how much time we had before it happened. Your questions are much more helpful though if this were to happen.
