Let's make this fun.

Good evening everyone,

I will begin this post by already noting that I am extremely frustrated that blogger will not let me use the tab bar to indent. I apologize in advance if I type so furiously that on occasion my indents will be spaces off. Well, since today was our very first meeting of Dr. Hanrahan's 102 English class, I must say that what we discussed in class earlier this morning will probably be the most interesting thing of the entire semester; that being you guys! I absolutely adore hearing about other people, especially since we seem to have such a diverse group. In order to start out this blog, I'm going to defer from the upcoming lesson, and specifically ask about you lovely people today.

In order to get our comments out of the way, I want to know:

1. List your WORST habit when writing a paper.
2.Your favorite book. Yes, it can be The Very Hungry Caterpillar, just so long as it's your favorite.
3. Then name your favorite movie as of recently. (You'll have time to think about it now!)

I'm going to ramble here a little bit before answering the questions myself, because I definitely want to share a few things with you all since you're my captive audience.

So, once I got the invitation to be invited in the Zombie group, I immediately accepted and went to snoop around to see if anyone else had written. I soon realized that there was already a blog posted for me, which was titled: For Future Me. There were chapters of horribly written murder stories by a younger version of myself. The creepiest thing? THE DATE AND TIME POSTED WERE THE SAME DATE AND TIME AS WHEN I ACCESSED THE SITE. I should've taken a picture or something, but I was so horrified that this group would read my 7th grade work and double over in laughter, that I deleted everything immediately. It was pretty bad. The next thing I would fairly much like to brag about is something relating to one of my three interesting facts. I will not say exactly what it is, but rather hint around to it. See, I know people in odd places and it's very helpful for what I like doing.
For this upcoming Valentine's day, my darling boyfriend, Zach, has purchased me a taxidermy bat in a shadow box. In an attempt to outdo his gift, I began to fish around for what he might like. (This relates to the movie topic) He kept bringing up how much he loved The Amittyville Horror, The Conjuring, and Annabelle. Anyone who knows these movies will know that there are real life main characters behind the scene. Their names are Ed and Lorraine Warren. They were a beautiful couple who worked together on various fascinating phenomenon, and deemed themselves Demonologists. There is a book titled Demenologist by Ed and Lorraine Warren, describing the odd events that took place in their lives. I just so happened to track down Lorraine Warren (RIP Ed), and am currently awaiting a signed autograph for myself, and a signed Demonologist book for my darling. My ego is at an all time high at the moment.

Before I conclude this blog post, I would like to say that even if you write something on here that you may think someone might not like, or that no one will read it - don't fret. I'll definitely read it.

1. My worst habit when writing a paper is to excessively use commas. I try SO hard to control my comma use, but I often find myself going back to revise multiple times. Commas are my safety net for every pause in a sentence.
2. My favorite book of all time has to be a three way tie. I'm going to be quite mainstream for my selection here. The Great Gatsby, The Lorax, and Where The Wild Things Are.
3. The Final is one of my favorite most recent movies. My movie taste is not for anyone, basically. I love senseless gore, psychological thrillers, and anything indie I can find. I find that a lot of times that the less of a budget you have, the more you work with the things you can manipulate such as the plot or character development. If anyone has Netflix, go watch The Brass Teapot. Nine times out of ten when I recommend the movie, people love it.

That's all for this long blog post!

Love,

Laura

  1. That is really interesting what you said about Loraine Warren. I really enjoyed The Conjuring and Annabelle, and her and Ed's real story is very interesting. It's awesome that you talked to her and are getting her autograph!

    1. My worst habit when writing papers would probably having numerous simple spelling and grammar errors. When i start writing i just have to write because once my mind starts working it doesn't stop so I can't interupt the flow of things or I will get lost.
    2. I think my favorite book of all time is probably (more than one) the Harry Potter series. I enjoyed readng those even though I'm not into reading that much.
    3. It is really hard gor me to pick a movie that as of recently is my favorite. It just depends on the mood I'm in on what I want to watch, but I guess I do have a favorite movie (or two) per genere. So, I guess I'll go with comedy right now and say either Stepbrothers or Any Kevin Heart movie (he is extremly funny!).

  2. I find demonology really interesting, I am constantly seeking information on the subject. Great work on tracking that down for your significant other, that is very unique gift.

    Now the questions:

    1. Let me be honest. I am not the best when it comes to writing a paper. I write as if I am in a conversation with the reader, and my ideas become jumbled, and spotty. Also, grammer is not my friend. Let me clarify this; I would rather sip sewer soup then correct grammer. I think its a nuisance.

    2. I do not read for leisure very often as I work full time and aside from my work I do very little reading. However, recently I stumbled upon a copy of the U.S Army :Squad Level Zombie Tactics manual. I thought that was humorous.

    3. Transcendence is still top on my list for recent movie. It was such a play on technology and morals. It was almost sacrilegious. Fantastic film.
I recommend you take a peek.

Also, I apologize in advance for my grammer. Do not call the grammer police. I try hard to correct it.

    Thank you!

    1. So, is it supposed to be Mad dawg or Ma dawg. I won't judge if you're a momma's boy.

    2. I had this blog account before for a separate class, I actually cannot recall why I used "Madawg".

Anyways, what I said in class is much better, Hindenburg-Dracula it shall be.

  3. We certainly do have a very diverse group! As for your questions,

    1) My worst habit when writing a paper is to put it off until the last night. Every time it happens I swear I'll never let it happen again, and yet it always does. Hopefully I'll be able to kick this habit in English 102.

    2) My favorite book is actually a play (if that counts) and that is The Crucible by Arthur Miller. If that doesn't count I'm going to go with Silence of the Lambs.

    3) I think my favorite recent movie would still have to be what I said in class, The Interview. While it's no cinematic masterpiece, it gave me a good laugh and made me think.

    1. I can not wait to see The Interview, I have only seen the little girl singing her anti-American song in the beginning. Good luck on breaking the habit...lol.

  4. I'm not familiar with The Conjuring or any of the other ones. I might go check those out.

1.) My worst habit with writing is I tend to contradict myself in my essays. I often end up writing for both sides of an argument which causes my essays to be a complete jumbled mess.

2.) Picking a favorite book isn't that simple. I would say I am tied between The Secret Garden, The Lord of the Flies, and Serena. The Secret Garden was a book I picked out of my school's library in first grade. I quite enjoyed it compared to the simple books assigned for first graders to read. Lord of the Flies and Serena intrigued me by the dark subjects brought up in them.

3.) My favorite movie is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I find British humor entertaining and the ending of this movie was quite unexpected.

    1. I also think British humor is entertaining. They can make the word biscuit sound dirty in nature.

  5. I found your blog post interesting and it certainly held my attention. I LOL'd at the part about your 7th grade posts. Haha, I found the part about the conjuring interesting too, I loved that movie and I think that'd be a great gift.

1.) My worst habit when writing a paper would have to be spellchecking and correcting absolutely everything before I finish my first draft. I find myself reading and rereading each sentence to perfect each part before even getting my whole concept typed. However, this is a blessing and a curse because I end up with a spotless paper. The downfall would be that I lose my train of thought and don't get my point or thesis across as well as I could if I didn't stop and edit throughout my draft.
2.) My favorite book would have to be To Kill A Mocking Bird. It's a classic and I've read it nearly a dozen times.
3.) My favorite recent movie would have to be as I said in class, Gone Girl. For those of you who haven't seen it yet I would recommend the book first. I found the book and movie nearly parallel and the parts that were not the same were changed for good reasons.

  6. I am extremely into a variety of horror flicks and just finished a phase of exorcism movies.
    1) In my writing, I tend to need more evidence and better transition between my scattered thoughts.
2)My favorite book is a children's book called "The Magical Mystical Marvelous Coat".
    3) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is my absolute fave movie. The vividness of the characters and their experiences keep me watching it over and over.

  7. My worst habit would be that I include many literary references in my papers that don't really pertain to my topic. Maybe I have just read a really good book, or the tone of my argument reminds me of something that I have read and I am compelled to include a quotation, even if there is no requirement for one.
My favorite book would have to be Faith of the Fallen. It is one of the books in the Seeker of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.
My favorite movie of all time is Casablanca. I don't care how many times I have seen it, if it is on, or if I have had a bad day I will watch it.
    Here's looking at you, kid.

  8. We have a ton in common! I would die for one of those taxidermy bats!! (this is the third time rewriting this comment... so forgive me for my lack of description -___- )
I also over use commas, usually so I totally understand where you're coming from!
My favorite book changes very often, but at the moment it is the original Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll because I find that I can make many, creepy, backgrounds in my head for Alice since the reader does not know her stability in her mental state. I am obsessed with psychiatric movies and ANYTHING with a ton of gore also!! Finally I will post this correctly...
