As Austin and Dixon already know, my unpleasant interaction today prompted this blog post, at which I'm sure all of you may get a kick out of.
So, I work at the Wellness Center in the telecommunications department, where I answer all the 800 number calls, and transfer the appropriate lines. Well, I come in to work around lunch time, and have to pass where the Wellness Center Cafe is, including passing a ton of the kids lined up for their lunch orders.
More frequently lately, there have been some entitled jocks that think it is okay for them to cat call me, comment on my tush, and call me names such as "babe". NONE of this is appreciated by any means, and today I just said, "Please excuse me," and walked right past them, at which case they decided it was appropriate to loudly remark, "WOW, THAT WAS RUDE! STUCK UP BITCH!"
I was absolutely floored at how pigheaded, disgusting, and down right inappropriate a group of people could act simultaneously -- which brings me to my incorporation of zombies.
As soon as I got into work, I totally thought about writing a blog post about this interaction, and immediately knew how to incorporate zombies.
A lot of the views about zombies have been completely negative this semester -- but I have to say that I would quite prefer them in a situation such as this. Have you ever noticed how there isn't a pack mentality in any zombie movies? Each zombies end goal is simply to eat what they can. Zombies don't care about how they make you feel, and they don't get hurt by other zombies actions, and we don't really get angry or blame them for being zombies because they just are what they are.
Being a human is so different because we are such complex creatures and have so many different emotions that can harm others. In situations such as this which I deal with quite often, I would rather these people be zombies anyway. At least then I could understand why they act the way they do.
Thoughts?
I had a similar experience yesterday. But in a more creepy way. I wore a sun dress yesterday to my appointment at the VA. I walked in and the first person I see makes a comment to me. He was respectful and just told me I looked really pretty. He was probably around 50. I walked to the waiting room where my appointment was and there were two older men sitting in the area. I passed by the first time and they were like "hey babe". The offices were set up in a grid and as I rounded the corner back to the waiting area they met me in the hallway walking away from the waiting room. I said hello and continued on, to which they followed me. Then they proceeded to call their buddies over to look at me. It was rather uncomfortable. And the worst part would have to be that they were all old enough to be my father.
ReplyDeletewow! I have never been cat called, but it sounds slightly terrifying! Part of me kind of wishes that it would happen to me at least once just so I can feel pretty, but I don't know. It is kind of scary how some people can be, especially in Meghan's case, where they literally followed you!!! Disgusting..
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I must say (though I think I already did on facebook) good for you for calling these guys out! Also, I was wondering when I saw you talk about this on facebook how you would relate it to zombies. I think you found a nice connection.
ReplyDeleteI have been cat called by men, and woman alike believe or not. It can be a problem. Nothing more uncomfortable then guarding an embassy and getting hit on by the officals. I feel for you girl.
ReplyDeleteNext time say somthing witty and enjoy the reaction. Like " Dinosaursarus bro-douches" and walk away with a smile.
