Well...looks like I'm early!

So, I got home from work tonight, got on facebook, saw something about Zombies and thought, "Hey this would make a great blog post!"Then I thought "Shoot! I forgot to do a blog post this week!" So I figured I'd be proactive and post this for next week suuuuuper early! 

This was the facebook post in question.

I know the zombie thing is extremely stretchable, but I thought this one was a pretty low blow. One the one hand I’m glad they didn’t single out one political party, but still, the people they’re making fun of care about their country. They may have different beliefs, but that doesn’t make them mindless. 

I don’t know the political views of the person who posted this, but it reeks of one of my least favorite things to hear, which is “I don’t care about politics.” Everything is politics. You’re going to get angry when the government does something you don’t like, right? Well, I hate to break it to you, but that’s politics.

I need a Zombie Kill team.

Ok guys, so I once again I am at work in D.C ,filling out paper work, buracratic zombification in process.
I am taking a break now so I wanted to let my mind meandor the depths of creativity, so entertain my imagination here. Imagine that we are in English class and suddenly the Undead start popping out of the ground like flowers in the spring. The whole campus turns into utter chaos in matter of seconds. It would not be a pleasent site. However there is the opportunity to be the hero! I would brave the masses! Then again thats my job, but I am curious, What would you do? Would you fight? Would you run? Would you sit in the corner and cry? Tell us!

Ill tell you what I would do,
I would immediately check around us for the living, then lock ourselves in the class room untill things settle for a few hours. What happens next would depend on you guys. I would need few brave souls with the will and desire to seek out the unholy dead , and eliminate them. Resident Evil style!

A severe case of Writer's Block.....

So, this week I have lost a lot of inspiration in writing papers. I just have come to a block concerning creativity. It really sucks when, as a writer, creativity block happens. So, this is one of the reasons I didn't post anything on here earlier in the week anyways. I don’t really know what to talk about on this blog today which is really terrible of me. It must be from this crappy weather blocking up my brain!

                Anyways, I kind of want to discuss my paper. I am doing my analysis on Zombie Land. So far, I’m still stuck on my analysis question… Do I want to talk about the importance of community within the film? Is that too cliche? Is that too broad? I seriously am stuck. Hopefully this weekend will help me open up my thinking processes again and I will become inspired to work deeply on my essays. This week has just been a weird week with all of the snow and such.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I’m sorry for such a crappy post this week, hopefully my next one will be better! 

My essay and a few questions.....

I am doing my essay on Warm Bodies. I really enjoyed the movie. It’s considered a “Chick-Flick”, but I wouldn’t say this is anymore a “Chick-Flick” than Zombieland is. I liked that they kept this movie PG-13 because everything that was in the movie felt pretty necessary. There weren’t any scenes where I was like, “This movie could’ve done without that.” There weren’t any distractions from what the movie was about and what was important. I was a little shocked when I read in the article that I brought to class that the director just called it a “zombie romance”. There is so much that this movie could offer as a reflection on our society like love (of course), connection and communication, expectations placed on relationships (of all kinds), or the lack of religion in any way, shape, or form. I’m definitely going to have to do more research about the director to see if I can dig a little deeper into his personal views. However, I liked the idea that Dr. Hanrahan brought up in which maybe to him it is just a “zombie romance” that has unintentional meaning. Maybe by following the book and in an effort to relate to his audience, he inadvertently made statements within the movie about society. This is an idea I think I will bring up in my essay somewhere. Does that sound like a good idea or will it distract from my topic?

I was thinking about either writing about what the movie says about connection and communication in our society or the expectations and habits placed within a relationship. I’m not really sure exactly what my question will be, but I think these could be interesting.

Do all of you think that a lot of movies have unintentional meaning that is interpreted differently by different viewers?

Zombies

So about the conversation we had in class ,  I really want to find the deeper meaning in questions. I am big into symbolisma and I wanted to find the symbolism in world war Z .I just am having such trouble developing a good question from the symbolism. I Love the talk we had about the 10th man. I think thats like safty check against group think.  What do you guys think are soome iconic imagery in your movies? I think that Gerry is iconic in the movie world war z. He is the traditional father figure , saving the world. I think thats some food for thought. What do you guys think?

Complusive Googling...

            Hi guys,

I’ve been thinking and I guess you could say worrying about our upcoming analysis. Well, when I get worried or concerned, my anxiety seems to take my compulsively to google. I google almost everything, it’s quite a bad habit and is an example of how dependent our society has become on technology. However, in my anxiety ridden search I decided to google “what makes a good literary analysis” and read from there. Here is a link to a Wikipedia page, (I know, I know Wikipedia is the devil) but this post was pretty helpful to me just as a reference page and reassurance. http://www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Literary-Analysis

Well, in this “How-To” I found a couple points very interesting. Oh they make it sound so easy by the way. Although, I did appreciate the point named, “Refine your thesis” I found it useful because I tend to get off topic during my papers. However, this step tells us “Don’t hesitate to revamp your thesis to accurately summarize your paper after you’ve written it” I am most definitely going to use this as a reminder to talk more about my thesis and back up my thesis accordingly throughout my paper which is another thing this website tells us to do. Another thing Wiki tells us to do is, “•Perform a close reading and analyze multiple factors in your literary analysis. You might discuss a character's development -- how the individual changes from the beginning to the end of the work. You could focus on a character's fatal flaw and examine the person's mistakes” this is precisely what Dr. Hanrahan suggests that we practice. Analyzing the characters, their choices, their flaws and their mistakes. Well, I hope you guys found something to take with you out of my compulsive google findings.
